Friday is a day that will be remembered by 11 youngsters from our Volunteer Projects, who were chosen to be the “mascots” for local Premier League Football side – Ajax Cape Town before a major clash.
Ten of our Oranjekloof Primary School under 11 players and a girl from our Girls Home Project were chosen to accompany the professional players onto the field before the start of the Premier League encounter against Free State Stars.
Treated like VIPs they were ushered into their own change room and kitted out in the Ajax strip. After waiting nervously they lined up in the “tunnel” where they were introduced to the players, and then accompanied them down the tunnel and onto the field, in front of the cheering crowd, and a barrage of TV and press cameras.
After their five minutes of fame, they returned to their change room where they were each given a match programme and snack pack by the Ajax club officials.
Still excited, the kids were then given stand tickets for the game, which Ajax won. Ajax
Cape Town are now top of the Premier League division.
Lulu, our Ajax junior player from Imizano Yetho township in Hout Bay was one of the ball boys for the game.
A great time was had by all.
