Success story Lulu – soccer star in the making?

Lulu Training at Ajax Cape Town

For those of you who know Lulu, our soccer prodigy, it was half year assessment time again and Kevin was called to Ajax Cape Town F.C. to discuss his progress.

Lulu originally came to our attention when he took part in our township sport soccer project in Hout Bay, Cape Town in 2007. We took him to Ajax Cape Town trials and they picked him as a future prospect when he was 10 years old. In 2009 he went on tour to Amsterdam with the club.

Lulu started at Under 11 level at Ajax Cape Town and is one of the few original junior members who have made it through to Under 14.

The club is very pleased with his commitment and his continued improvement, so much so that they intend to give him the captaincy in some of the games later in the season. He is well liked at the club and they do believe he can “go all the way”.

Having  recently seen him play against a strong Under 15 side he takes up a “general” midfield role, finding space, accepting the ball, taking one touch and knocking the ball on. It suits him nicely because he has always had exceptional “first touch” control and he has great vision.

His faults are his temper, particularly towards incompetent referees, and his lack of aggression for a 50/50 ball.

With all the professional training at Ajax he is obviously in good physical shape but is still invariably the smallest guy on the field.

It says a lot about his character that he has never forgotten his roots, and is still keen enough to play local games with the township teams.

We have taken him to get his passport renewed so here’s hoping there is another overseas trip coming up soon

Lulu still has a long way to go but watch this space ….
